Good seafood and serenity beckon people to the Esplanade

KNOWN as the Esplanade among the locals, Tanjung Harapan near Northport in Port Klang is a haven for seafood lovers. For those who visit Port Klang, a visit to the esplanade, which is a mere 25-minute drive away, is a must. The fresh seafood cooked in various styles is said to be the Esplanade’s ultimate lure.

Restaurateurs offer reasonable prices for their dishes as most of them get their fish, crabs and squids from nearby fishermen. Klang Municipal Council (MPK) president Mislan Tugiu said the esplanade’s quiet location away from the bustling North Port made it attractive to tourists who enjoy the serene environment especially after a good seafood meal.

“Most people enjoy the shady environment while anglers find the spot a good place to fish. Recently, MPK has upgraded the walkway along the water’s edge. More trees, leafy shrubs have been planted to complement the coniferous trees,” he said.

Klang Municipal Council (MPK) president Mislan Tugiu said the esplanade’s quiet location away from the bustling North Port made it attractive to tourists who enjoy the serene environment especially after a good seafood meal.

Mislan added that the esplanade was also a favourite haunt among youngsters during the weekend. Looking better: An overview of the Tanjung Harapan Esplanade with its newly paved walkway, trees and shrubs. “Apart from the seafood restaurants there is a food court frequented by freight truckers. The sound of the waves lapping and the cool breeze gives the place a sanctuary-like feel for workers around the area,” he said.

Golfers also enjoy the environment as they tee off across the esplanade at the Port Klang Golf Resort. Mislan said cleanliness in and around the esplanade had improved with the support from corporate firms such as the Northport.

Northport Bhd’s deputy chief executive officer Mohd Haris Abdul Rahim said through the port’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme much effort is being made to work with the local council and community to keep the esplanade clean. On Sunday, 300 people from Northport, MPK, Alam Flora Sdn Bhd and Lembaga Urus Air Selangor came together to clean the esplanade.

Selangor Islamic Affairs, Youth and Mesra Rakyat Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Rahman Palil, who led the joint cleaning project, was pleased that Northport had included the Tanjung Harapan area into their CSR programme. Haris said Northport’s effort to keep the immediate port environment clean was consistent with its status as a world ranking port to encourage tourism and businesses.

“We are always ready to join hands with MPK to carry out such social and welfare programmes to enhance the image of Port Klang. We strongly feel that Port Klang must live up to its status as one of the important international gateways of Malaysia,” he added.
